Basata (qui signifie "simplicité" en arabe) est un campement en Égypte, dans le désert du Sinaï, sur le bord de la Mer Rouge. Sur la plage au sable fin, une trentaine de cases en bambou sont alignées. Derrière : un horizon de montagnes sablonneuses. À l’intérieur des cases : tapis typiques multicolores, matelas au sol, oreillers et moustiquaire à baldaquin. L’endroit est géré sur une base de confiance. Sherif, le responsable de l’endroit, demande simplement aux gens de noter ce qu’ils prennent du réfrigérateur, puis de payer la note à la fin de la semaine. Il cultive lui-même plusieurs des aliments qu’il offre.Un boulanger fait du pain et des zaatars puis le soir tu as toujours le choix entre un plat de poisson ou un plat végétarien. Par souci écologique, Sherif a aussi mis en place un système de recyclage des déchets. Il n’y a pas d’électricité sur le site, sauf dans la tente principale. Il n’y a donc pas non plus de radios bruyants. Seules quelques guitares se font parfois entendre.

Basata (that means "simplicity" in Arabic) is a camp in Egypt, in the Sinai desert, facing the Red Sea. On the fine sand beach, about thirty bamboo huts are aligned. Behind them: a horizon of sandy mountains. Inside the huts: typical colourful carpets, floor mats, pillows and mosquio nets that form a canopy. The place is managed using the honour system. Sherif, the person in charge, simply asks travelers to note what they take in the refrigerator and to pay at the end of the week. He grows himself many of the food he offers. A baker makes bread and za’atar and then at night you always have the choice between a fish and a vegetarian dish. Out of respect for the environment, Sherif also put in place a garbage recycling system. There isn’t any electricity on the site, except for the main tent. Therefore, there aren’t any loud radios either. Only a few guitars can sometimes be heard.
