En 1947, la construction d'un des plus gros barrage du Mexique, le barrage Miguel Allemand, chassait plus de 20 00 familles indigènes de leur village natal. Autour du lac artificiel sont demeurées une vingtaines de famille qui, en 1997, lançait un projet touristique afin de trouver une alternative à la crise économique. Ce projet de l'Institut National Indigène est audacieux dans la mesure ou la région est peu touristique. Les installations et activités sont très agréables et bien constituées.
