The concept of an ecovillage is simple: to develop a healthy environment for humans to live in, while minimising the impact on nature all the while being sustainable. Cape Paterson is a great example of such an eco village. An uncompromising respect for the environment is flagrant. Here are certain elements that compose it: use of solar energy, tanks to collect rain water, use of recycled materials for the housing construction, natural ventilation, use of non-toxic materials, etc. The project also has numerous initiatives whose goals are to preserve or improve the local flora or wildlife.
At the centre of this ecovillage’s values is also the health of its residents. Good nutrition and physical activity are at the core of this village’s way of life. For example, instead of cars, walking and cycling are the predominant means of transport. It’s really a continuum of respect for both the environment and human health. To paraphrase the Ancient Greeks, we could say it favours a healthy mind in a healthy body… in a healthy ecovillage!
