Installée au rez de chassée d’un duplex, on peut facilement passé devant la Chinelita sans remarquer qu’il y a là des fourneaux remplis d’empanadas. Bœuf, saucisses, tomates, épinards, aubergines, olives, fromage, on les achète à l’unité pour les manger sur place ou à la douzaine pour apporter à la maison.
La salsa maison (celle avec le coriandre, les oignons et les tomates) justifie à elle seule le déplacement. En plus, Sandra est assez patiente pour écouter un restant d’espagnol qui flotte dans notre mémoire pendant qu’on boit un Inca Cola glacé.
La photo a été prise dans un marché en Europe, pas tellement près du Chili on en convient. Mais l’idée, c’est la saveur des ingrédients qui fait voyager.

On the ground floor of a duplex, you can easily miss La Chilenita and not even notice the ovens filled with empanadas. Beef, sausage, tomato, spinach, eggplant, olive, cheese, buy them individually to eat on the spot or take away a dozen.
The homemade salsa (the one with cilantro, onions and tomatoes) alone is worth the trip. On top of that, Sandra is patient enough to listen to a remainder of Spanish that’s been flowing around your head while you sip an ice-cold Inca Cola.
The picture was taken in a European market, which isn’t so close to Chili, but please bear with me, the idea is of the flavours that make you travel…
