The first genocide of the 20th century. 1 200 000 Armenians killed in 15 months.
Collective memory is a responsibility. It must be maintained at all costs in order to prevent such atrocities from being repeated in the future. This is why museums such as the Armenian Genocide Memorial, located in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, have enormous importance.
The Museum proposes numerous exhibitions in its different halls, exposing the Armenian’s history, their culture and traditions. Its capital mission, however, is to promote the collection of objects, documents and artefacts linked to the life of those who died during the genocide: to conserve their memory. Also, it wishes to raise the international community’s awareness of (and also of every human being) the importance of recognizing the genocide, and hope it will help to prevent similar massacres from happening elsewhere.
