The most famous artist squat in Berlin, the Tacheles, is located in an old five-storey building. It has been restored in some places, covered with tags in others. It is an old department store from the 1920s that used to be surrounded by a vast wasteland which has since been transformed into a sculpture garden.
The Tacheles is a center of production and broadcast of contemporary art which allows a network of international exchange. It is artist-managed, born from the collective will of artists to exhibit their work and to have workshops, in addition to being self-sufficient of its artistic broadcasting.
On your next visit to the German capital, why not explore this much less touristy venue in order to discover the thirty workshops, the artists and their work. There’s a chance you might not leave empty-handed!
