Rules of cooperation
ekimondo is a community of travelers who are open to the world and curious about other cultures and new destinations. They take social and environment issues to heart and make them a priority. Serious about discovering the world in alternative ways, they are eager to share their discoveries…
It is also a travel directory, a news and information website, and a showcase for a television program, all focused on sustainable and responsible tourism.
Tourism has become one of the largest economic sectors in the world. However, that development has had many negative environmental and economic repercussions. It has also transformed cultures into disposable products for tourists. Through ekimondo, we wish to provide alternatives to mass tourism by encouraging all travelers to share their fair trade, ecological, responsible or cultural spots. Places we call ekistops.
What is an ekistop?
Discovered in Quebec, Canada or abroad, an ekistop is a place that you wish to share with ekimondo’s community.
It’s a bistro run by a group of women, a bar where local artists perform, a public market, a shop selling fair trade products, a volunteering program, an indigenous community welcoming travelers, an ecolodge built of recycled materials, a camp of traditional lodging.
Essentially, an ekistop is a place that reflects first and foremost a state of mind: that of the traveler who wishes to discover differently, with an open mind, solidarity and respect.
Obviously, all spots are not ekistops. ekimondo’s team is committed to monitoring the quality of the ekistops. But the community belongs to you. The more you participate and create quality content, the more the alternatives to mass tourism will be diversified, accessible, interesting, and most of all known and encouraged.
